Morning all, no update last night as I have quite a busy night.
I returned to the hotel from work with a colleague who had flown out from the UK to work with me for the week. To protect the innocent he shall be called Scott, you see that is a double bluff as his name is actually Scott but you will assume it is something else because I have said his name. The clever part is that there are millions of Scott’s and I protect his anonymity by not telling you his surname is Forrest. So this person called “Scott” joined me and I informed him that I was planning on a walk this evening and he decided to join me. So it was across Hans Christian Andersson Boulevard and Rudolf or reindeer platz, a quick pause to watch the convergence, you thought I had forgotten, but no I stood in the platz trying to figure out why the two dots had not grown any closer together. Either I am looking at the wrong two dots or Venus and Jupiter have had a bit of a doo and not getting close. There wernt a lot of stars visible, light pollution and all that, so I am assuming the two dots were Jupiter and Venus and that they must have cancelled the convergence for tonight.
So it was onward with not only a walk in mind but I had a mission last night, I had been asked by my mother to get her a statue of the little mermaid that sits in the water around here. So it was into a couple of souvenir shops to find the right one. I saw one possible candidate but didn’t get it as I thought I better have a look around and see what else was on offer, the truth of the matter was, there was nothing, so it looks like a walk tonight to pick up the only mermaid I have seen.
We continued our walk and walked past Kongens Nytov (or whatever) and onward down a nice little area full of restaurants and bars. Eventually we said blow this and turned around and walked back. Now Scott wanted something to eat, I had already had mine in the hotel but he eventually settled into the little pub and had a fish and chip. Whilst he was eating I got talking to this chap and this is amazing. He had been a captain of a coaster and had spent some of his time travelling from Europe to Hull and Goole Docks. We had a really good chat and it was very interesting. Better still he was talking about a special type of boat he had been on in his younger days but didn’t have a photo to show anyone, so I rang my dad and told him about the ship and he said he had a picture and would email me it, so I could email it onto this bloke in the pub. By the way he didn’t try to sell me anything. Actually thinking about it, in reverse, he met a guy in the pub who promised to email him some pictures, sounds dodgy to me and I am the guy doing the emailing. So back to my story, the ship was one that can carry barges on board and then when they dock in a river the barges are set free and they continue with the load along the canals to Leeds etc. I was really pleased my dad had a photo of the ship in question as the guy seemed really pleased. I also ought to point out that the reason I asked my dad was that he has a big interest in ships and has photo’s of every ship that has visited Goole for about 50 years and many that haven’t.
Back to the guy, anyway he started giving me the history of this particular ship “Bacat 1” and we both had a good chat for about an hour before we departed the pub and it was back to the hotel.
All in all a nice evening chatting to the guy whom we shall call Lyder Sorensen, he is from the Pharoah Islands but worked out of Norway so travels via Copenhagen and as he lives alone occasionally spends a few days in Copenhagen prior to travelling back home. This was one of those times he choose to stay in Copenhagen.
So it is Wednesday morning and its back to work and another day in paradise.
