Today has been a lesson in pre conceptions, but more on that later.
This week has been one of those rare weeks when I got to have a day at home, but that meant I paid for it on Tuesday. So this morning I had to be at the airport by 04:00 and to make sure I got there on time I had to set off at 02:00 and as you can imagine having to set off at that time meant that I don’t sleep when I am off so early so effectively missed a nights sleep. The up part of this is that as soon as I got onto the plane I was asleep before it left the gate and only woke as the plane bumped down at the other side.
Brussels airport staff then were extremely kind by allowing me to fully wake up by giving me the chance to sit in baggage reclaim for just over 55 minutes waiting for my suitcase to arrive
Once I was reunited with my luggage I had two meetings at our local office in Brussels before the two hour plus drive to Luxemburg for another two meetings, before been able to retire to my hotel room for what will be an early night and writing this blog before nine in the evening, this will hopefully mean an early night.
So back to my pre conceptions, Last year and earlier this year I worked in London and in particular the financial district. This is a mix of new and classic buildings , very modern outlook and of course the people. The people don’t just work in the buildings but they “play” around their work area and often when I was either on the way home at around six in the evening or going to the hotel there would always be plenty of people doing stuff. Socialising, you know the type of thing I mean.
So I expected Luxembourg to be very similar, with what I thought was a commercial city and it would if not be similar then better. This was where I was shocked, the city is OK but it is not modern, of course there are some modern buildings but there are also a lot of buildings dating right through the 20th centaury. Also I imagined it would be like London whereby the workers would be living the scene but I walked out around the local area at just after six in the evening, admittedly not too far, but it was very quiet with only at most a handful of people in view at any one time and they all seemed to be rushing home. Overall the city looks dated and not somewhere i would look to come for pleasure, unless of course I am being unfair and basing my conclusions on too small an experience.
Anyway it will be an early night so
Night All.
