A little later than normal but a quick review of day 85 and
what is in fact my final day of travel.
Not my final day overall but my final day from this stint. It was the first week of March when I started
my current project and since then I have traveled every week, a total of 23
weeks.
While I love the travel I am looking forward to one week of
working from home and a recharging of the batteries.
But back to Friday and the plan was to pack for the journey
home, a meeting at the company I work for's building and then get to the airport in good time for the flight.
Needless to say the plan didn't go to plan and the meeting didn't
take place but at least I was at the airport in good time. But as there was not a lot to report it is a chance
to look back at the town of Aviles.
The town is a lovely area of cafe’s and little shops which make
plenty of pleasant walks. Although not
having a lot of time to test many of them, on the first night I walked to the
right once out of the door of the hotel and just meandered down a small mosaic paved street
and no matter where I went the place looked like typical oldie world Spain you would imagine it would look like. As it was approaching nine p.m. the place was
packed with locals who seem to take the chance in the nice weather to just walk
and talk to other like minded people. It seems the culture
of the town’s people is to gather in and around the square and enjoy the late
evening. Whilst I was waiting for my UK colleague to arrive I sat on a
bench and as I was there, a couple of people at different times also sat on the
bench and tried to engage me in conversation.
The strange thing was that as I explained I was English and knew no
Spanish they laughed and left. I was
wondering why they laughed.
The second night did not give as much time as I’d hoped and only
another small walk to the river was possible before having to spend time doing
some work. But I saw enough to see that
Aviles would be a nice place for a long weekend. Not really much to see for more than that, but
coupled with a trip to Gijon and a few other places along the coast it would be
a really nice week’s holiday.
I arrived home at 7.30 p.m. after an easy Easyjet flight and
journey from Stanstead. So that is it
for a week but when it starts again it will be a trip back to the Czech
Republic and Ostrava via Prague.
