Today started with me being quite
tired but as for some reason my exec room did not include breakfast I got more
chance to mooch around the room and wake up before I had to leave for work. And as there seems to only be me there I was
not going to go in early choosing to do a bit of work from the room before
finally at 8.30 a.m. rushing to get ready and going into the office.
I seem to spend a lot of time
glancing out of the window looking for the storms that have been promised today
and around 1.30 p.m. I was rewarded as the rain came and the wind howled across
the area, it was interesting to look at for about two minutes and then I
decided I would get my first walk of the day in and braved the elements before
diving into St Pancras for my first lap.
It seems to me that down here people
pay less notice of the weather, I wonder because there is so much more
undercover, a lot of transport is by tube so you have no idea what he weather
is like as you zip across the capital.
Also people seem to use taxi’s more, so again, less time spent out in
the weather and getting direct to their arrival point. I have noticed that there is less coffee
carried when the rain is falling even though when they are carried this have
lids on so it is not because they don’t want rain water contaminating their
artificially processed hot drink.
The walk back to the hotel was wet,
the rain was coming down quite bad so I opted for the route through Kings Cross
and on the underpass and covered about the first 25% of my journey to the hotel
underground.
After the night before when I
relaxed in my exec room, tonight a couple of colleagues were here and so we
decided to walk into London and now that the rain had stopped thought we would
take that to the max and go for a full walk to the centre again.
We set off from my hotel near Russel
Square, mainly because mine was the hotel on route, we walked to Tottenham
Court Road and then to Oxford Circus, we turned south and headed toward the
river. W did break for dinner just south
of Oxford Circus but were soon back on the road and got to the river via Pall
Mall, Horse Guards parade and the Cabinet War Rooms by 9.30 p.m. We crossed the river at Westminster taking in
Big Ben and the houses of Parliament before walking on the south bank crossing back
to Embankment Tube Station where we got a tube back.
But it was a lovely night and some
pictures below show a couple of the shots I took on route. I got back to my room around 11.30 p.m. and
because of the good walk managed to get a much better sleep.
A view looking toward Buckingham Palace, please remember this is in almost total blacknessA quick view of Big Ben (or St Stephens Tower) as we passed
A look down the river from Westminster Bridge toward the Eye and beyond
A night view from Hungerford Bridge toward the City of London and St Paul's Cathedral
