A new year a new start - Time for some hard facts about customers

I have decided to restart my blog, not because I am travelling a great deal which I am not, although I am travelling a bit but this time using a lot of public transport which if fantastic for people watching and listening.  Not because I am nosey in their business but because the stories they often tell are so funny and often when taken out of context they are even funnier.  So I guess that is also a reason but also because sometimes I want to get things off my chest and a blog which virtually no one reads is be the perfect place.  And trust me I have a lot of things that gripe me.  And because this is a blog that no one reads I can do things like start sentences with and.  And finish them.

Why do I have so many things that gripe me, I guess it is the Victor Meldew scenario, when one gets older it seems harder to fathom the world and particularly some of the thoughts of other people, particularly young people.

So onto today and why am I grumpy.  Well, I was watching the news, which is a normal route of my desolation, and an article came up on the business news which was about energy suppliers and how the regulators are trying to ensure that vulnerable people are not constantly overcharged by suppliers.  WHAT!!!!   There should be a law that stops any company deliberately overcharging any customer, perhaps called theft or fraud.  It reminded me of a saying I heard from someone many years ago.  “If a poor man steals from a rich man then it is theft, if a rich man steals from a poor man then it is business”.

My own argument is that recently my Sky bill hit the unbelievable high figure of 105 for the month which does include broadband, loads of telly and phone but I still thought it was too much and decided I would cancel some of the telly and perhaps move the broadband.  So I rang to cancel and of course got through to a lady in the cancellation team.  Within fifteen minutes of checking this and checking that, the exact same package suddenly became 60 for the month and fixed for 18 months.  Basically if I had not decided enough was enough I would still be paying nearly double what I needed to pay.  Now that is not fair to the people who either cannot be bothered or have some issue that means they feel they cannot speak and discuss in the way I did.  So whilst I agree with the regulator with what they are doing, why cannot the government just force businesses to have a price they advertise and then stick to, not a case of who shouts loudest gets the best deals.

I absolutely agree that we need to protect the vulnerable in our society and to do that we can stop the practice of unfair charging for everyone.

Join me again tomorrow when I speak about politics and religion.   Only joking.
