So a new week and a new crises unfolding in the business world. It seems today they have informed us meagre
consumers that the number of new mobile phones fell in the last quarter last
year by 5.4%. A tragedy I hear you cry,
particularly when they announce this at the side of the news that this is the
first quarter ever that mobile phones have not sold in record numbers.
WHAT!!!!!!!!
So basically what they are telling us is that for over 20
years companies have had continued growth in the number of mobile phones sold
despite recessions etc. and now they are speaking about it being a tragedy cue
the bee gees song, or at least that is what is happening in my head. Not that I am wanting the mobile phone business
to collapse and put people out of jobs but do we really need to upgrade every
two years. To open up fully, I got my
first smart phone two years ago next month and despite many many calls from EE
and carphone warehouse begging me to take on a new phone my current phone is
great and happy to keep it for as long as it works and the three phone calls a
month I get can come through to me. As
you can tell I am not a popular person.
Also on the news today was the story that the big energy
suppliers are being told they are going to be capped as to how much they can
charge as a standard rate. Basically they
are being told by the government that they are no longer allowed to charge
people as much as they can get away with.
However this information comes with a serious warning from the energy
companies. This regulation will affect competitiveness
as if all the companies can only charge a certain rate and not as much as they
want then there will less reason for people to want to keep switching. For me, if people are happy and they know
they are not paying over the odds then good they are happy and they stay with their
supplier. The only reason people are
switching now constantly is because they don’t trust the supplier and think
they are being ripped off.
We really need more news about fluffy animals.
