Not sure what was happening late last night but at about 10:30p.m.there was a couple singing, not a full song but just a few lines and it was an opera. He had a deep baritone voice and she was squeaking at the top of her range as female opera singers tend to do. It was not in the next room and actually sounded like it was a good few rooms away, maybe even on a different floor but they were certainly going for it. This lasted about fifteen minutes. Then this morning I woke at 06:00 and I was still getting ready at around 07:00 when they started again. Not sure if it was the same songs as they seem to be singing in Italian or something like that but they were belting out opera’s greatest hits. Again it lasted about fifteen minutes. As I left the room and went past the reception to go out to the car there was no indication anything was wrong.
Today I managed to find Mardyck first time by ignoring my satnav and any of the instructions given to me by “the locals”.
Work came and went in a blur. A blur that seemed to last 18 hours actually and then it was homeward bound.
On reflection of today I like working with lots of people of differing nationalities as you get a great mix of attitudes and I am sorry to say this but stereotypes are true. But the main area I like is when people are discussing current events, like today it was the Cyprus Bank issue and basically the German guy was passionate about the fix for the problem, the Spanish guys didn’t really care, the Czech guy just laughed, the Lithuanian seemed quite interested but struggled to keep up. The one thing they all have in common is that lunch is a very important item in the day and they insist on having it and the standing around a coffee machine when they have got their drink just so they can talk and drink which is a must. The other British guy and I got ours and went back to the office to continue the work we had been working on through lunch.
The evening was due to be spent like most others, in my hotel room doing some work when a knock on the door signalled some of the guys in the same hotel were going out for a walk. I joined them and whilst I had already eaten and didn’t partake, I did join them for a drink. It was nice to sit and talk and with these guys been Lithuanian and Swedish then it gives people plenty to talk about, whether it be about sport in the respective country or just the current affairs affecting each one.
I returned to my room at 10:30 p.m. and ready for a good night sleep.
Night All.
