Today’s blog begins just 5 minutes after the last one ended, the reason for that is, as I closed the laptop and headed for the bed at the other side of the room, the whole place lit up with lightening, this was the precursor to a massive storm that continued until 1:00 a.m. I opened the curtains so i could lay in bed and watch the forks shoot down from the clouds, it was very impressive. The rain that accompanied it was torrential and watching it for a few moments I could see the road outside the hotel starting to flood. Being on the 4th floor I didn’t have a lot of concern for my safety as alot of people would be affected before me.
After work I decided to have another walk into the centre and as it was quite a warm evening I set off to meet a UK colleague who was also walking in but from another hotel. As we arrived in the centre there was another brass band limbering up to start some music, just as the heavens opened.
Another torrential rain storm was soon in mid flow and we sheltered under a brolly, sat at a table of a local hostelry. We even decided that we would buy a drink of some kind as we were sat effectively in their area. However the guy serving decided he would spend time recovering his table cloths and other paraphernalia from the empty tables than serve us. So after about 20 minutes we decided it was not going to stop or even ease off, so dressed in t-shirts and no coat we trudged through the streets quickly getting soaked.
I arrived back at my hotel totally wet through and packed my wet clothes into a carrier bag as I was due to pack and putting them in the case would have caused all the other clothes to get wet and some were still unworn that week.
Despite the rain the band played on and we were treated to medleys from various artists, Michael Jackson, Phil Collins and I think film theme tunes to name just a few. Even in the rain it was very nice and you have to admire their enthusiasm as, although they were covered in a band stand, it wasn’t offering all that much protection.
The night ended nicely and it was soon time for
Night all
