Friday as always is travel day and in this case it was get up at 04:00 and drive to Brussels for the 09:00 flight back to the UK. I had one job en route and that was to drop a UK colleague to the Luxembourg Airport which I duly did just after 05:00 and got to Brussels airport just before 07:00. That is where my problems started. At check in I was informed that the flight had been cancelled and the next one was going to be at 15:00, so that gave me just eight hours to kill. What was more annoying was that I had chosen that flight was my son was due to get an award for the voluntary work he had done over the year and the late flight now meant I missed that. When one works away so much it is really upsetting when you plan to get to something which is important and circumstances prevail to stop you. More over when I joined my 15:00 flight which was delayed until almost 16:00 to find that the plane was still less than half full despite having the passengers of two flights on there. My conspiracy theory was that there were not many people booked on my flight therefore it was cancelled to save money, however that is only my theory and not proved in anyway and I may have just been cynical. But I don’t think so.
So I arrived home at 18:55 to an empty house and felt thoroughly miserable until they got home about 30 minutes later and he had an array of certificates etc to show for the amount of voluntary work he had done.
The weekend started and work evaporated into the background.
