Day 74 - Home to Amsterdam to Luxembourg - One Long Day

The weekend soon finishes and after having Monday working from home, Tuesday was travel day and today it was back to Luxembourg.  Due to the time of my flight, an evening flight I have had to go Birmingham to Amsterdam and then onto Luxembourg which means my flight arrived at 23:00 local time, so there was just time to catch a taxi and to the hotel and then to bed.
But before all that, I have to admit that I thought the day today would never end, setting off at 09:30 this morning for the airport didn’t help but the plan was to get so far and then stop and do a couple of meetings before continuing to the airport and checking in but the journey to Birmingham Airport was not that smooth, just before Junction 30 of the M1 there had been a lorry fire and the motorway had been closed in both directions as the smoke from the fire was really quite bad, this meant I had a break of over 45 minutes sat on the motorway.  As most people were doing, it was engine off time and then a walk around the carriageway talking to fellow travellers.  As I was walking along the hard shoulder, only a few yards from the car I spotted a pound coin on the hard shoulder and picking it up it looks like it has been there some time.  I have photographed it and attached to the blog.  Not sure if you can tell too much from the picture but it looks to have taken a beating over the time it has been at the side of the road.  But every cloud and all that, so with a delay of 45 minutes and one pound richer I was back on the road.  The calls were done and I checked in at the airport.
When I arrived at Amsterdam I thought I am a bit thirsty so as I had gone through the next round of security I bought a couple of bottles of diet coke and headed for the gate, only to be sent through another security and of course had the drinks taken off me.  I have to admit at this point I was tired and cheesed off, I know security is important and all that but I honestly think there is some racket going on as you can take through bottles of whisky etc you get from the duty free shops but bottles of soft drinks you cant, maybe because they cost less and people will not kick up a fuss.  But I do think it is a plan to get people to buy more at airports as once you get through each check, hey presto another drink shop selling just what you have had taken off you.  So what is the difference to that water and don’t tell me it has been scanned as my bottles could easily have been scanned and there were bought from a shop that was beyond the first security.  Another thing that got me is that you can put little bottles of liquid (upto 100 ml) through as long as they are in clear plastic bags and guess what, now there are machines that you buy the plastic bags from at a cost of a £1.00 each.  I am like a dog with a bone with this one.  Anyway in my tired state I made a declaration to myself that with the farce about two lots of security and taking my drink off me after I had got passed the first and bought the damn stuff and the time it takes to get through those securities I have decided I will not use Schipol again if I can help it.  So Schipol airport is on my black list.
Then the wait for the Luxembourg flight was not that bad but it just seemed like ages and I was thirsty but not going to buy another drink in case they come up with a new rule in those few moments and you get that taken off you.  So when I finally reached the hotel at 23:00 I have to admit it has taken all my effort to write this stuff and have probably forgotten something.  But that is all for now as I am going to get some sleep before tomorrow and to the customer for more meetings.
Night All
