The travel diary for Tuesday is going to be short and sweet
and the reason for that is that the travel part of my day didn’t start until
6.00 p.m. The day was spent working from
home, the reason was that I had a family thing to do late afternoon. That meant that I had to be on site for
Wednesday morning and the only way to do that was to set off after my family
event at around 6.00 p.m. and drive to Dunkirk.
This really wasn’t as troublesome as you may expect.
I set off and had a quick call at the cash machine to get
some money before hitting the highway.
The planned route was M62, M18, A1, A14, M11, M25, M20, Channel Tunnel
and then some unknown road to Dunkirk.
The traffic was great and at least I had football to listen to on the
radio as I headed south. The good thing
was that I pulled up at the Channel Tunnel check in booth at 10.30 p.m. after a
completely uneventful journey, so uneventful you start to think weird things
out of boredom. Like a sign that said Debris in road and I
thought, why are there loads of Debra’s in the road and how do they know they
are all called Debra. I really think I
should concentrate more when driving.
So I arrived at 10.30 p.m. and as I checked in there was an
11.30 train but that would have cost me another £44 so I stuck to my planned
train of 1.30 a.m. and with the time difference got to the hotel at 4.00 a.m.
this morning. I would like to report I
had no trouble sleeping right through until 8.00 a.m. when I had to get up to
start the day’s work. So Day 105 begins
After work the plan was to go to the local Auchan and see
what Christmas presents were available for some family and friends. After visiting the Auchan in Luxembourg and
seeing the rather impressive prices I thought it would be the same in France,
but I was surprised. The prices were
exactly double of some of the things I had bought in Luxembourg. Luckily I am planning to be in Luxembourg in
the next few weeks and am driving there again so it maybe an opportunity to
look at those prices again.
So tonight I met up with my Belgian colleague who is here
for a few days to go through some plans for the next few weeks and we had a
nice walk around the town, and as normal for Dunkirk it is very quiet with
barely a handful of people on the streets.
We called at the local pub to get refreshment and a chance to plan the
next days work. But the best part is
that after being social for a short while I was soon back at the hotel to do a
few tasks that were outstanding and then
chance for an early night and catch up on some of the sleep I missed yesterday.
So for now
Night All.
