These blogs could all start with the same paragraph. Work went and then I left. I suppose that is bound to be the case as I
am here to work first and foremost.
Tonight was a different matter as I wanted to make the
effort to get out of the hotel and do something different. This I did with my Belgian colleague, we drove
in the direction of out of town Dunkirk and along the beach front, after a
short while we found a little stopping point and took to the beach walking
along the sea front. Despite the
temperature gauge in the car been stuck on 23 degrees C it was a little chilly
in the breeze that was coming off the sea.
But not to be foiled by the weather we finally made it to an ice cream
parlour and pooled our money to avail ourselves of an ice cream. This was consumed on the beach before a walk
back to the car and to continue the drive in the outward direction. As we walked along the beach I couldn’t help
but think that the sea front at Dunkirk was very similar to the beach front at
certain points at Bridlington on the East Coast of Yorkshire. The three story buildings with either shops
or accommodation to rent seemed to be the norm and then just across from the
beach.
The road followed the beach for a little while and then
finally at the site of some sand dunes the road dissolved into a car park, the
sun was about 30 minutes from setting so we headed inland to find some food
before going back to the car park to watch the final minutes of the sun and
then the awesome view of it sinking into the sea. It was a little obscured by clouds but at the
point where it takes a dip the cloud was gone and we could see it disappear on
its way to Australia.
Seriously it is one of the sights I love to see and have
only seen once before, a holiday in Cyprus when the family and I stopped and
waited to see it happen over there. It wasn’t
quite as clear as then but all the same it was nice.
With food eaten and the sun well and truly gone it was time
to head back to Dunkirk and once I had deposited my colleague at her hotel I
made my way back to catch the last of the cricket on the internet before a
little bit of work and then time for bed.
Whilst tonight was a brief excursion into the French sea
side it has to be a reminder that I have to get out every week to see
something. I don’t know how long this
travel on this project will last and I am sure when it’s over I would have
regrets if I had not tried to see more.
So the point is taken and the note buried into the memory banks to use
the time to see as much as possible next week when my Belgium and Nottingham
colleague travel to Paris and the town of Saint Denis.
Early rise tomorrow as it is travel back day and an early
Channel Tunnel crossing.
That’s all for now
So Night All
