Day 111 - Esch sur Alzette - A day of firsts

Today was the day I was not looking forward to you.  It was born from changing plans and quickly made decisions and that all culminated in the three of us having to set off at 9:00 a.m. and drive the 287 miles to Esch.  The drive took the best part of four hours of which I managed with just a brief stop to stretch our legs.  The meeting was completed and after some brief chats, we were back in the car for the 287 miles back to Paris and as I had a couple of meetings to attend to whilst in the car my Nottingham colleague drove the first 220 miles.  Once we stopped we did a quick swap and we were back on the road and arrived back at the hotel at 8.30 p.m.
The interesting bit came as we stood in the lift going to our rooms.  A poster in the lift said that Thursday was the day that the hotel offered free massages.  We agreed to meet pretty quickly so we could go to the restaurant next to the hotel and within 30 minutes we were changed and down in the reception.  As we were on our way out we spoke to the receptionist as I was curious about the massage, mostly cause it was free and I had never had one before.  Within a few minutes I was being shown to this strange seating contraption in the reception area and was sort of kneeling forward having a massage.  It was a bit rougher than I imagined it would be, as the lady seemed to be pushing her knuckle into the spine of my back.  Other than that it was, I assume, pretty normal but then she started tapping on my head, and then pulling my hair, I wasn't sure if this was the massage or I had done something wrong and she was taking it out on me.  It lasted a total of 15 minutes and when I was released from the chair I did feel a little relaxed.  As I got up I asked my Nottingham colleague if he would be having a go but as he was hungry he gave it a miss.  Therefore we sat at the restaurant and entered into more French cuisine.
As we sat and ate we discussed the day and on reflection I had done two things I had never done before, I had never had a massage and I had also once said I would never drive around Paris or Italy and today I had done the first and driven around the French capital.  It was a fearsome as I had believed when I made that vow, even though the road was marked out in lanes, no one took the time to bother to use them and just drove where they wanted to.
As soon as the meal was over it was time to head back to the room to get some work done with my new relaxed body.  As I had been on the road or in meetings all day there were a lot of emails to catch up on and with an early start to the airport in the morning it is now time to get some sleep

Night All.
