Day 122 - Ghent - 2.5 degrees

Today was one of those days that has been totally hectic but very little to wrote about on the blog.  That is mainly because it has all been work activities but for novelty value lets give it a go.
So it was time to get up when the alarm clock burst into life at 4.45 a.m. (that could be the start of a novel). I trudged wearily out of bed and to the bathroom.  After filling the kettle and doing other things we shall not mention.  By the way the kettle was filled with water.  So after filling the kettle (can you tell I am trying to make this more dramatic than it sounds).  So after filling the kettle and starting it to boil I concluded my bathroom wash routine and made a cup of tea.  It was about as exciting as that until I left the room at 5.55 a.m. and was planning on grabbing a little breakfast down in the restaurant but by the time I had descended the elevator I had talked myself out of it and the plan was now just get to the car and drive the 197 miles form the hotel i Luxembourg to the client office in Ghent.  this would normally have taken just over 3 hours but as part of the journey is negotiating the Brussels ring road which makes the M25 look like a free flowing race track, it was the best part of 5 hours by the time I reached my destination.  I was expecting this and had taken that much contingency into my planning.
The main area of amazement on the morning journey was that fact that just before dawn the temperature gauge read 2.5 degrees C.  I really struggled to believe it could be that cold so soon after the lovely weather we have been having
The meeting was routine and the three people I met from the client site were really nice guys and sounded very rational.
After a brief meeting with my two colleagues I had met up with, now this is going to get confusing but there was the first Belgium colleague and now I have a new Belgium colleage.  So they will become M for Male Belgium colleague, he being the new one and then F for female Belgian colleague, her being the old one, not that she is old but has been on the project for the longest time.  So I met the M Belgian colleague for the first time today and took the chance to have a chat about the project before I jumped back into the car and attempted to get back to Luxembourg.  With all the road works around I could not find the way back I came and ended up going a different way which added another 15 miles onto my journey.  I got back to the hotel in Luxembourg at 7.00 p.m. on the dot and exactly 13 hours since I left it.
The rest of the day has been spent working, trying to catch up on more mails I missed when my PC was ill and of course the new ones from today when I have been out and about.
So as you see, not a lot to write about today but it has still been a very hectic day.
So as I am quite tired and it looks like I will get a lie in until about 8.00 a.m. I am going to call it a night

Night All
