Normally if you started any piece of writing with the words, there are more guns around here than people then you would have cause for concern, but in this case it is actually true. It is like a wild west saloon. I am not sure what is going on but when we arrived at the hotel there were about twenty police vehicles in the hotel car park and around the hotel police walking all over the place and I know that in Europe it is normal to see teh day to day police armed but for us Brits it is still a bit strange. To calm any nerves of the family or to stop my wife digging out the insurance policy it is all OK. It seems that the hotel seems to be playing host to all of these police officers and they seem to be going backward and forward to rooms and then out on duty.
Today started with a very cold day and a trip from our hotel in Calais to the office in Dukirk. As I dont talk about work in my blog, mainly because no one will be interested, I struggle to be interested so no one else will be, therefore the next entry will be about my evening and although I had the last half of my chicken to eat from last night I went across to the shopping mall with Leicester my colleague to sit with him and keep him company whilst he had his dinner. The mall is nicely decorated with what seems to be the normal white christmas tree and polar bear. A few years ago we used to have santa's and then penguins but now we seem to be in love with polar bears and we put them all around the tree. Perhaps this was a forgotten part of the nativity and whilst the three wise men gave fancy stuff and a shepherd brought a lamb, perhaps some local, high on the Christmas festivities brought the baby Jesus a polar bear. I could imagine Joseph and Mary sat there saying to each other, "a bit strange but hey, be nice to the guy, he could be dangerous, and after all he has brought a polar bear".
Back to the meal and tonight I was more wary about the drink I ordered and stayed clear of the gigantic glass of beer I managed to get last night. Although we picked a bad place to sit as all the waiters passed our table carrying the food for all the other guests and as I had, what turned out to be, my dried up roasted chicken from last night, I was envious. But I hung it out and came back to my room, had my chicken and tomorrow I will look for something a little nicer and possible something I can have hot as my room has a microwave and I could do some cooking, I think I fancy a baked potatoe and cheese or tuna, but we shall see. Something to look forward to, my cup over floweth (that was sarcasm if you didnt guess).
The night was also spent preparing work for tomorrow as well as watching the footie on TV, I didnt realise but I can get ITV on the TV so it was nice to hear English commentary whilst watching and working.
With all of that done and the time moving toward midnight I am going to call it a night and head to bed. So before I go to bed i will add another picture of another Christmas Tree and in this case a giant polar bear.
Night all
