Today has been a day of work but as other days this week I have got back to the hotel and then done some more work with nothing exciting. Today has been different and thanks to my UK ex pat colleague.
We left work at 17:45 which has been earlier than the last few nights and we agreed to meet up at my hotel when he had been home to get something he couldn't take to work. When he arrived he also had a US friend of his in the vehicle and together we all set off to a location quite near the local casino/horse race track. It was the gun range where my UK ex pat colleague is a member. The range was empty and we spent the next couple of hours using his one gun and his colleagues two guns. What I liked is that no matter how much of a laugh you can have, safety is never compromised and when guns were in hand it was all very serious.
Firstly I had a go with my UK ex pat colleagues gun, not sure what type but it can be described as black .22 rifle, albeit a very modern machine. His friend had a similar woodern handled type .22 and a 45 caliber pistol.
The modern .22 rifle was a nice looking gun, matt black with a very nice gun sight. When firing it, there was very little resistance and could easily be held steady for some accurate shooting.
His friends .22 rifle was a similar feel when being shot, nice and steady. However the 45 caliber pistol was a different animal. The kick was amazing, you really had to hold onto the gun as it fired. It was difficult to get it to be accurate and took several attempts which i didn't mind practicing with. Also the sound meant that I needed the ear protectors that my colleague had brought for us all.
This is the first time I have ever fired a real gun and can see why people like to do it in a safe environment or as safe as you can be when you have a gun with live ammunition. Also I liked the fact it wasn't rushed, a lot of time was spent reloading the clips and that was a nice time to talk and understand about the guns, then when we were all ready it was a chance to use the guns.
After that we then had a bite to eat together and I finally got back to the hotel around 22:30. Whilst I was there I asked my UK ex pat colleague to take a couple of videos and have put a link below.
I know people have a lot of views on guns but I can see the thrill of using such a weapon in a safe environment.
First Video - This is me shooting the .22 rifle

Second Video - and this is me with the 45 caliber pistol which does kick quite a bit.

Also below is the target that I was aiming at and the larger holes at the top are from the 45 pistol. with the smaller shots from the rifle.
So after a very eventful evening I will bid you all
Night All
