Day 4 - Hobbs - The lone star state

Another morning but it was nice that I managed to stay asleep until after 6.00 which I suppose gives me my first full night sleep since getting here.  After I had finished my blog last night and turned in for the night a comment one of my ex pat US colleagues said when we were talking about the area.  This did not hit me til I was about to swing my legs into the bed.  He asked if I'd seen any spiders or snakes yet and replied no.  He said that where he lives in Hobbs they had not had a snake in the house in the past few years but did catch a black widow walking along the porch and he said, have you been checking in the sheets before putting my legs in as I am on the ground floor.  Well thanks to him I know check the sheets, wardrobe, under the bed and listen very carefully for noises or hissing.  It is amazing what you can conjure up in your mind when you start thinking.  He also said to zip my suitcase up.  well as it is empty cause i have unpacked everything that is not really a problem.
So it was off to work and again I drove with my US Colleague playing shotgun and we arrived some 45 minutes later.  However on the way I noticed that the state line was a couple of miles from Hobbs and I decided that after work I would have a look at that and take my first trip in Texas.  I don't count the time in Houston as it was only in the Airport and to me that is not really standing on the ground.
So work came and went and on the way back to Hobbs,my US colleague had agreed to come along for the ride, we detoured and was soon at the line between New Mexico and Texas and the line between Mountain time and whatever time zone Texas is in.  Once into Texas I drove for about twenty minutes to see what I could find, but as like the night before there was nothing and I mean very little.  An odd building, a disused gas station and then finally when nothing was coming i used the gap between the two highways and did a U turn to head back to good old New Mexico.  I did a little videoing around the state border but as you will see if you choose to look, there isnt a lot about.
The rest of the night was spent in the room doing some work and catching up on a bit of the Archers.  Tomorrow is the final day of the week and then it will be chance to look a little further from the base.

The videos today are from the state border, a look at the New Mexico Goodbye sign, the Texas state border sign and finally the Welcome to Texas sign.  Believe me not a lot else.
