Another day and another 04.00 start. Not quite got used to the time difference but I did sleep well from 23.00 until 04.00 and then of course had my sleep on the sofa after i got back to the hotel.
The job for today is to book my return for the end of May so I will be coming out here again after having a week at home.
The plan for today is to drive myself to work as we car shared yesterday, my US colleague will come in my car and I will see if i can find the site with his direction. It didnt seem to bad I think there were two turns so with a bit of guidance I should be able to do it, also the roads seemed very empty last night and in the morning not much more traffic with most of the road being dual carriageway.
I would love to try and take a bit of videoing later, so may stop en route to get a bit of the scenary with the oil wells and show just how many there actually are.
One treat to look forward to next week is that I have to have a drug and alcohol abuse test for work, not sure what that entails, whether blood or wee test but it is something I have not done before. A sort of first anyway.
So with it now being almost 06:00 I shall start to get ready for work as I do have a couple of early calls from my UK colleagues back in Blighty. I have made a cup of coffee in the coffee machine, see I am already going native, no poncy cup of tea for me in the morning now, caffeine, caffeine, caffeine.
So to work and an update later
I left the hotel after a number of meetings and the most important part, opening my Birthday cards. I was glad that I had brought them with me and it made me feel good to see the special messages from my family. It made me feel a little closer to home than I was. Today it was my turn to drive in our car share and so I was directed the same route as yesterday. On the way I took the chance to stop for a few minutes and take a quick video of the sight of the oil sucking machines for the want of a better word, that is the first video below.
Lunchtime was the next time we managed to get off site and my US Colleague and two guys who also work on site but are ex pats was when we went for lunch at a diner in downtown Eunice. Then at the end of the meal we had cake, I have to admit that no one put candles on however my US Colleague did ask the staff to sing happy birthday but I think they were as happy as I was when I asked them not to.
After that we left the diner and I took a bit of videoing of the Eunice High Street, which as you will see there was not a lot about.
After work my US Colleague car sharer and I left the site and traveled back to Hobbs and the hotel. This time I dropped him off as I wanted to do a bit of sightseeing and just followed one of the roads out of the town. It eventually arc'd around and went through a small industrial area before passing the airport and I continued heading west. I drove for around thirty minutes and as my speed was about 60 mph I suppose I traveled around thirty miles. During that time I noticed that there were very few oil donkeys but the land was just scrub with no more than the odd building. I was hoping to find a dark place to watch the sky and see if I could see one of those skies that is full of stars however the clouds were rolling in as it went dark so i turned around, took a small video of the area, the third one below, before heading back east and back to the hotel.
People often say they are in the middle of nowhere but when you drive for about 30 miles and you see no more than half a dozen buildings I feel you really are in the middle of nowhere.
Tonight I have done some research in what to see in the area at the weekend and it does look like it will be Roswell which is about 100 miles away and also there are some caves which are suppose to be quite spectacular, so hopefully we will get time to do some different sight seeing.
After been up so early I am trying to hold off going to bed until as late as possible so that I will sleep a bit more than 0400 as the last two mornings but we shall see.
So for not it is time for
Night All
