I don't normally do an update before I set out in the morning but today I will do, so that if i don't get back from my travels you have some clue as to why.
I have been down to breakfast this morning and they have a TV that is on showing the news. The topic of the day is the weather, the go on about it more than we do in the UK. The purpose of that it today is that, later on today it is expected to reach 106 degrees and then they are talking about Tuesday being the highest temperature on record since 1938 so goodness knows what that is going to be.
So my plan today is to set off in a north east direction and attempt to get to Lubbock, Google maps is telling me that it is about one hundred miles so at least I have a couple of hours of air condition before melting into a gooey mess when I get out of the car.
Also whilst I am on, I did forget one thing from yesterday and that was a sign I intended to take a picture on my way back out of the mall but forgot. The sign said, "In the State of Texas it is illegal to have a concealed weapon in the Shopping Mall". How about that, totally OK to carry a six shooter around in your holster that people can see, as you ask a very nervous shop assistant if they have that thing you have traveled one hundred miles for. Although I will say, every shop assistant I have had contact with has been very very helpful and so polite.
So here we go with update 2 from yesterday, so there's clue that I didnt update the blog for Day 19 (Sunday) as by the time I got home was tired and sticky and just wanted to relax without going on the computer. So here is the diary of yesterday's events
Drove to Lubbock, started to look around a few shops, got bored with shopping and drove out again.
So you could say Lubbock was a bit of a waste of time, for me. I am sure to people who love shopping it would be great. On the way back to Hobbs I decided to take a few detours to look at this and that and found some very interesting things. I spent a nice hour at the Veterans Memorial Park just outside of Seagroves (I think that is how it is spelt). A lovely park with families playing and I actually did a nice walk in the sunshine around the perimeter of the park. It was very busy and that made it a nice change. I lost count the number of people who said hi as I walked around. Also there were picnic tables dotted around but what was different is that each one had a kind of kettle drum barbecue just next to the benches so people could roll up and bring some coal and some meat and enjoy.
After that I travelled back to Hobbs but had a drive round a couple of towns, Browntown or something like that and then Seminole which I think takes the prize for the best named Texan town. A real cowboy name.
On the way back into Hobbs we got a new record for temperature whilst I have been here and I took a picture of the car dashboard for proof. A whopping 108 degrees F. so needless to say it was blooming hot everytime I got out of the car and a good job I had my cowboy hat and sun glasses with me.
That is all for this update as I need to get a move on and get to work, so more updates later about what will happen today. Assuming something does.
