Day 11 - Back on the rails but a bit windy

Back on the rails today and by rights the day started during the night as very little sleep was had as I spent most of the night listening to the wind. Although about 30 minutes before my alarm was due to go off I must have fallen asleep. Ah well.
I set off to the station early, not sure why I thought this but assumed as there was a back wind of about 50 m.p.h. It would take me longer to walk. Anyhow I got to the station about 15 minutes before the train was due and even though I was early I did expect the train to be late due to the weather. So I stood on the station and thought, why do they not have more adverts on small stations as I read every single item of reading material including timetables, normal health and safety notices and anything else I could see as I was that bored. Amazingly the train arrived on time and I was soon bobbing my way through to Doncaster and surprisingly all the trains on the departure board read on time. That is not bad when you consider how bad the wind is and the amount of debris I saw on my walk to work. I saw a number of brown wheelie bins, only the brown ones that were making a rush for it away from their owners. Branches and twigs strewn around the place, so for the train to be on time is very good indeed.
I just realised it is brown wheelie bin collection day so that could explain why those types were making the dash for freedom. The green and blue ones will still be chained up like little slaves.
Another point I noticed is that my last walk to the train was done in full day light but now we have put the clocks on an hour, this walk was done was again in the dark.
At Doncaster I decided to treat myself and get a coffee and a sit in the cafe as I had almost 50 minutes to wait for my London train. Gone are the days when you could hop on the first that came your way.
The plan for the train was to find my seat, plug my music in and close my eyes and catch up on some missed sleep.  That didn't work, I did all of those things apart from managing to drift off.  I kept opening my eyes and looking out at the countryside that should have been whipping past but instead it was crawling by.  It seemed that finally something had managed to slow us down and this time it was signalling along the route which meant that overall we were nearly 30 minutes late.
Before that though I was sat getting more and more irritated by everything that was going on, I even started to wonder who had put some of the rubbish songs I have on my mp3 player.  i actually have an album by Phil Collins on there.  PHIL COLLINS for goodness sake.
Then at Grantham this guy sat next to me and promptly fell asleep instantly, that irritated me.  Someone had their text alert set to a wolf whistle, that irritated the hell out of me.
On the way down I have started to notice huge fields full of solar panels, not just one or two but I would say in the teens of fields. I am not sure if they have been there a while as unless you are lucky and get a glimpse as you speed by you dont see them.  With us going so slow I could see field after field of them which I thought was a really good idea.  Rather than the big windmills that you see for miles around they are close to the ground and harvesting the sun instead of crops.  I suppose some people will state that the ground should be for feeding the world which I can understand but if it means we have more renewable energy then it is a good thing as far as I am concerned.
I was totally shattered by the time I arrived at Kings Cross, luckily the short walk from Kings Cross to the office woke me up and I was ready for action by the time I hit my desk.

The night's entertainment also didn't go to plan as my Liverpool colleague had arranged for us to meet at his hotel and then get a bite to eat but as his plans always seem to involve us getting out of the office before 6.00 p.m. we failed miserable.  However after last time when I ended up going around various restaurants and pubs for several hours, for me it may be best that these plans don't come off.
So I had a little walk for about 30 minutes before my boss rang and arranged to meet at a Prezzo restaurant and we had something to eat there. It was interesting that another colleague from Preston joined us and the main topic of conversation tonight was, supermarkets and in particular the value of Lidl and Aldi, seriously, I am not joking. I couldn't really join in as we don't have an Aldi in Goole so I spent the time listening.
The meal was finally over and I am now back in the hotel sat doing this blog before hitting the hay.  I want an early night as I have a training conference call at 7.30 in the morning so want to be sorted for that and then will need to rush to work as soon as that finishes.
So on that note it is night all.
