Day 2 - London - Unhappy room

Sometimes things happen which are so funny but because of this political correctness thing, you can’t write about, not that they are offensive or nasty as I don’t find things like that really that funny but sometimes stereotypes do apply and that makes things funny.  Like the fact I am from Yorkshire and I am really tight with money.  My daughter would comment on this while she was younger but now when I am in her house like I was the last time I was there and I was stood near a light switch, during our conversation she said, “just flick the switch off, we don’t need the light on” and it proves that being cautious with money is inbred into your jeans and stereo types are true. So that makes it funny, unfortunately you cannot say that about people you don’t know all that well.  Therefore the start of my blog today cannot start the way I would really like it to, not because it was nasty but because it is not PC.

The morning started well after a really good night’s sleep and I think that was because of both my very early start, getting up just after 4.00 a.m. and the walk we had last night which meant by the time I hit the pillow just before 11.00 p.m.  I was really tired.

So I woke up at 6.25 a.m. with the alarm ringing.  I like to put times like 6.25 and not 6.30 as it gives me a few more minutes to come around before the half hour mark.  Occasionally if I am a real rebel then I will use 6.26 or 6.24 but I was a little more normal and did 6.25 a.m.

As I am in the hotel it was breakfast time and I was good at first, having just cereal and orange juice but relented to my greed by then going back and grabbing a croissant but as most of it crumbles onto the plate, table and floor around me, you can never say you have eaten a full one.  How can one croissant make so much a mess.
I retreated to my room once no one was looking and I could leave the mess behind me and made myself a cup of tea in the room whilst I got ready for work and a time to catch up on facebook and you tube.

Tonight didn’t quite go to plan, I was hoping to go out and about again and all was looking good as my Liverpool colleague was not interested in going out so I thought i was free to wander, however my boss then suggested we meet up for dinner and it ended up being in the hotel so that was it.  A night checking the football scores on the phone and talking about football.

That is one good thing about my boss for this project, when we are out we rarely talk about work, he is keen on football and that gives us plenty to talk about and a pleasant change.  He doesn’t read the blog so I can say without fear of him knowing.  It is a pleasant change to go out with a work colleague and not only have work in common.

So I have had two nights of company and no work discussed.  That must be a result.

Now then, to my room and the issues I have with it.  I have done a video and put it on you tube, i will put a link when I can but in essence.  The room is much smaller than usual, there is only a shower and no bath, the window is like six inches wide and looks straight out into an office block which has it lights on all night so the room is bathed in light all the time, even with the curtains shut.  Also in the rooms at the front of the hotel the windows let no sound in, none at all, it is totally quiet. Here at the back of the hotel I can hear the traffic from the front.  It is so loud during the night.  The bed is comfy and the room is certainly clean so no complaints there, it is just a very small room when you consider the other rooms I have stayed in at this hotel.  One good example is when you open the bathroom door which opens outward, it leaves no room to pass to get to the door so certainly the room is only for the one person as it would get in the way for two people who were moving around.  Some people might say well that is not too bad but when you consider it has cost £180 per night, it doesn't seem such a bargain.

So on that bad mood moment I am going to turn in for the night as I am up at 6.00 to pack, get breakfast and then get to work for 8.00 a.m. so I can do everything I need to do before I catch the 18.50 p.m. train home.

So for now, night all
