Day 17 - Home to London - THIS IS AWFUL

Normally I like to write my blog in a linear order, starting with the morning and going through the day but today I will do this backwards.
yadot letoh ta devirra I

only joking, I arrived at the hotel and it is the first time I had stayed in the Thistle Barbican as my normal hotel was priced rather high for me at over £200 per night.  I found this on hour company travel agency at £120 per night and thought the photo's look nice and when you're in reception it is rather nice.  I checked in and was given the news that I was in a single room which was not as my information and also the price was 146 for the night and that is apparently because VAT was not on my booking receipt, strange as I don't know another hotel which does that.
A colleague of mine has stayed here a few times and whilst he has a double room he says it is OK.  Mine is a single and good god it is small.  I don't have to hold my arms outstretched fully to touch each wall.  The decor would probably be kindly described as tired.  The view is of a brick wall which with just for a break a window in it.  I have stayed in single beds before but this is small.  The floor has so many stains on it I don't feel like taking my shoes off.  It looks like a dodgy hotel in some dodgy area not a well known brand in the centre of London.  I felt so miserable when I got in that I put the telly on which I don't normally do, but found that there is only about 10 English channels.
On the plus side the wifi is good, good enough to watch telly on the tablet so I can at least watch something good, the bed looks clean and I am only here for one night and have to be out of here by 7.00 in the morning so another bonus.
I my plight of writing this backwards, I managed to get out of the office at 6.00 p.m. so decided rather than getting the tube to Old Street I would walk to the hotel, as I new I had a fair bit of work to do before tomorrow and would get no chance to go for a real walk.  It took me just a couple of minutes less than an hour and walked around some streets I certainly have not been through before.  I left Kings Cross, walked through Angel and then through Islington to Clarkenwell and the location of the hotel.  I am sure there are much better rooms in the building but I can only go by my own experience and that is not good.
As nothing much happened at work as it was busy and no time to even leave my desk other than a couple of trips to the loo, so I go back to this morning and it was nice that today my son was going by train and roughly the same time so we could walk to the station together.  I waved him off as his train pulled out and then waited the ten minutes for my train to whisk me to Doncaster and my 40 minutes in the waiting room waiting for my train to the capital.
I traveled by the Grand Central train company and I really like those trains, comfortable and with a non stop service to London it is ideal and price of £40 each way was not too bad since it wasn't booked until Monday of this week.
With the final news that I was just watching telly before going to bed only to see Lenny Henry showing off the joys of the Premier Inn Hotels and making me feel worse, I am going to bring this blog to an end for today

So from an unhappy chappy
Night All.
