Day 27 - Spooky goings on

Why oh why is it that when it comes to travel day, I manage to wake up every hour almost on the hour and then at 5.00 a.m. feel totally awake and ready to get up, but at 6.00 a.m. I am absolutely shattered and can hardly move and every attempt to get out of bed results in almost an ache from every muscle.
So as you can tell a good mood morning.
So it was get ready time and on with the pedometer and out of the door to the station.
The train journey was almost forgettable except for the fact that there was a party of teenage school children in the same carriage who worst of all, were excited to be on their way to London.  Still it didn't stop me falling asleep in my seat for well over half an hour.  I was awoken as we passed the Emirates Stadium and the kids got more excited and more noisy.  Still it is nice for them to be looking forward for something.
As for me it was to the office and a couple of walks around the stations to break the afternoon up.  It did mean that I didn't leave the office till 6.00 p.m and with the evening's entertainment planned it was time to get to the hotel and check in and see what room I have this week before changing and getting ready to meet my Wigan Colleague.
We agreed to meet at 6.45 p.m. and he was on time and we were soon walking at double pace from Russell Square down to St Paul's Cathedral. It took just a fraction over 30 minutes to walk.  We found the guy who was going to provide the night's entertainment and entertainment in the form of a ghost walk.  It is not quite high season so there was only my Wigan colleague and myself and the guy called Adam who took us around.  To be fair, if you are looking for a spooky experience you are not really going to get that and I suppose that may be because there was only the two of us in his party.  But if you are interested in the history with a few ghoulish stories thrown in then you would have loved it just like we did.  It was so interesting and the knowledge the guy had was quite stunning.  I cannot even begin to recall most of it but we saw places where King James had seen the ghost of a witches coven and the scene of numerous hangings including the place where Guy Fawkes accomplices had been hanged.  At one point he gave a very graphic description of how a person is hung, drawn and quartered and trust me it is not a very pleasant thing indeed.  But one thing I didn't know (apart from how to hung, draw and quarter someone properly) is that they did this because they believed only people who were "complete" were accepted into heaven, so if they were in pieces they would be turned away and would be punished for all eternity.
The front of the Old Baily Court House.  It is in front of this building where people would be hanged, seven at a time in front of around 2,000 onlookers who would in some cases pay for the honour of good seats at the pub across the road.

The who tour took almost one and a half hours and for good measure we also got to see the place where they filmed Sherlock falling from the roof of St Barts which I have added a photo below.
The building where Benedict Cumberbatch fell to his death or at least we thought so till season 3

So after the walk we then started the walk back to the hotel but calling in at an Italian restaurant and having an evening meal.  This took till around 10.30 p.m. and the walk back to the hotel was another 30 minutes.
In all it has been a fantastic night with some real history of London learnt.
On the step front I broke my record today with a total of 19.416 steps done.  I am sure that is going to take some beating.
For tonight and after a very busy day, it is now time to say
Night All
