Wow - what a weekend, on Thursday night my son started with some quite violent vomiting and managed to keep us all awake the whole night, and then spent the next day quite ill. Then on Saturday night I must have picked it up, I suppose one of those things handed down from Son to Father and by 1.00 a.m. I was head down in the toilet. I managed to get back to the bedroom and a few minutes later rushed back to the refuge of the bathroom. This continued until 5.00 a.m. and thinking I must be all out of stomach contents when things took a turn for the worse and we shall say I had other worldly issues which kept me at the bathroom. I did make one decision when you are thinking things stuck on the toilet and that is find out where all that liquid is actually stored in your body for times like these. And why is my body storing that much liquid in the first place. I did weigh myself as I do quite regularly and over the weekend managed to lose 12 pounds over two days. Amazing and would have been fantastic if it had been the right thing to loose. One thing is, no one can accuse me of being full of s***t.
By this morning i was feeling normal and just in time as it was time to go to London and plans for an interesting night and those who follow me on twitter (#malrob01) then you will know already what my plans are but for those who dont you will have to read a little further down to find out.
For a treat I have gone back to getting audio books from the library. I say gone back cause when I used to drive all over the place I used to get audio books and play them whilst driving and it was a great way to enjoy the journey more. So i decided to start again but put them onto my mp3 player and it has been nice to listen to whilst walking along and when I am on the train.
If anyone asks you how to get people to want to talk to you then I have the perfect method. Normally or as a rule, do not wear ear phones, that way no one will ever want to even acknowledge your existence. Then on one day wear earphones or head phones and I guarentee people will want to engage you in conversation. On the walk to the train with my ear phones blasting The Metropolitan Murder by Lee James a guy looked at me and said good morning, followed by a police woman who also said good morning and then when stood on the platform at Goole station this guy decided he wanted to tell me about how cold it was, which was useful as he may not have noticed that I had already factored that part of the day, since I had walked to the station. Then prompted to tell me how the train is never on time when to be honest I would have said it had a 95% on time record when I had caught it, it is the return train that is always blooming late. But not wanting to argue I agreed and tried to put my head phones in before he started again. Don't get me wrong I like talking to people as you get to find out stuff but after weeks of being ignored the only day I have something to listen to, I get a friend. Oh well
The train journey was good and managed to get to disc 4 track 3 and that Agnus white had sneaked out of the refuge for women in Holborn by the time I arrived at Kings Cross. I was quite disappointed to put the mp3 player away as I was quite into the story by the time I arrived at work. Still I have got to earn the dollar so I engaged in work with my usual gusto and enthusiasm.
It is soon 4.30 p.m. and today I want to leave at this time as i need to check in and then get to South London by 6.00 p.m.
I got to the hotel by 4.50 p.m. and was changed and leaving the door at 4.55 p.m. pretty fast even if I say so myself. Texting my Selby colleague as I got to Russell Sq tube station and agreed to meet him at Kings Cross on the platform we needed for Whitechapel. You would expect to be quite a difficult thing during rush hour but we did it and we were soon on our way to the change point for the overground.
At Whitechappel we departed the Underground and had to go down two flights of stairs to get to the overgroung, now that was confusing. by 5.45 p.m. we were at New Cross and just a few minutes later at the university. As we hunted around the university we seem to pick up other lost souls and finally found the place we were all looking for, the Stuart Hall lecture theatre. All I can guess is that it must be named after a different Stuart Hall.
But we were in by 6.05 p.m. and it hadnt started. The lecture we had come to see was
"The evidence for and against the afterlife".
It was interesting and really I should leave it there. However it was an Icelandic lecturer and had to admit his delivery must be one of the worst I have heard from a speaker. His speech lowered in volume as he finished his paragraphs and many times just ended a sentence with "or like that" even when he was saying things quite interesting. But it was an interesting lecture and gave food for thought.
My colleague and I headed back to central London after it finished a little after 7.30 p.m. and found ourselves in the Euston Flyer pub on Euston Road. We had a drink whilst the end of the Hull City match was playing out and then as it finished we parted our ways. He had a meal booked at his hotel so I decided to come back to mine and have a meal there. I managed to listen to some more of my book whilst i waited and ate the meal. Disc 5 now.
it also meant that I didnt feel so awkward in the dining room on my own as I was fully emersed in my book and the good story that it is.
I was back in my room just a few minutes after 10.00 p.m. so I can now finish my blog, have a cup of tea and do some of the crossword.
All in all a really good and interesting day. So I suppose all is left now to do is say
Night All
