Copenhagen Day 5

Day 5 and my travel home, but today I made a number of new observations, in fact so many I will forget some for sure, firstly going into the railway station I was listening to the announcements which of course are Danish but then they are repeated in English, strange I thought as an English railway station will do English and that’s it, tough if your Johnny foreigner.  But does that mean because culturally we only hear English we become xenophobic.  This is getting deep stuff.  I am not sure a petition started by me to get French (as I think the 2nd or is it 3rd most spoken first language after mandarin and I am not sure that would be a good idea) spoken at railway stations across the country would adhere me to the people of my birth nation.
My 2nd observation hit me or rather I hit it, we make fun of health and safety and this week I have been dragging phones from one side of the room to the other for calls and network cables hither and thither until today when I went full length over the bloody phone cable, send the hand set across the room at the speed of light and ripped the phone socket from the wall.  And made a sound of a brass band’s coach crash (oh god please don’t let any coach crashes happen today as that will look in really bad taste).  Needless to say one new phone later and all is well.  Lesson learnt, pay more attention to health and safety or forget health and safety and watch out for phone cables.
But that reminds me last night I turned on the telly to see if any football was on but it wasn’t so it was off again toot sweet.  But a couple of hours later i was in bed and the lights are all off and it is spooky dark.  All of a sudden there was the loudest crash, I err, and well let’s say the maid will need to get a new mattress for the next person in that room.  I leapt out of bed, fumbling for the lights wondering what the hell had happened, my heart was pounding and there on the floor was the TV remote that had fallen off the bed, how can that make so much noise for such a little thing.  Needless to say that little thing was almost the cause of my admittance to a Danish hospital.  Feeling a bit shaky but well cleared out I had a good night sleep.
Friday is breakfast Friday – which I must admit I have been observing all week.  But apparently in Denmark, as I understand it, people gather to have a shared breakfast where they have bread and cheese etc, cut the bread together and eat whilst socialising.  What I have seen is just lots of Danes walking around carrying damn great knives.  Then the ritual is to have social chatter till lunch, take lunch and then in the afternoon have cakes whilst they do more social chatter.   Needless to say we have had to plan for the locals to come in over the weekend and catch up as we are behind with work.  And for some reason they are surprised we have had to do that.
I will post what I have written so far, before I head for the airport and the plane back to Leeds Bradford Airport and home to take the dog for a walk.  Really missed everyone at home, well the dog any way.  Not sure if I will get the chance to post anything before I am back on the road back to Copenhagen but next week I fly from Manchester so that will be interesting.  Although again I haven’t got a direct flight and go via Frankfurt.  I think I am doing a tour of European airports.  I could write a guide, the shopping bit will be easy as all the shops are the same just change the airport name and make a mint.
