It is time to be off on my travels again, however this time, this week the blog is for more selfish reasons. I know that I am travelling but not quite sure where I will be come Friday, therefore this is to update my family where I am as they have been doing a good impression of giving a damn lately. So here we go.
It's Monday and the only thing I know is that I am to be on site in London as the project I have Ben working on is due to come to an end but not quite yet.
On site in London means that I need to be up at 05:00 to be ready to catch the bus replacement service to Doncaster. I know many think this is a pain but I think it is more comfy than the train and quite happy to use it.
One question I have is why do men in their late 50’s and beyond do they carry on like teenagers when they get together. This morning the bus driver got off the coach at Doncaster and when he saw the guy who writes on a clipboard he said in a loud yobish voice, “GAZZA” and I assume Gazza replied equally as loud, “TEZZA, HOW YA DOIN”. Tezza then responded, “GAZZA”. Then we had about 20 seconds of “GAZZA”, “TEZZA”, “GAZZA”, “TEZZA”. And then they said nothing and the driver got back on his bus. What the hell was the point of all that.
As I have been going to London about twice or thrice a week for the last 10 months I have got into a bit of a routine. Once at Doncaster I have about 45 minutes to wait so I go to the cafe and get a coffee. I look very sophisticated with my computer bag and dressed up drinking coffee with the other businessmen. None of those feel like a fish out of water like I do, I bet.
The non stop train gets me into Kings Cross and down the tube to Liverpool Street Underground Station and the 3 minute walk to the office I am been working in. I would like to give a funny story about my time in the cucumber of hell, sorry, I mean The Gherkin but there haven't been any, not one. But as I said I have only been working there 10 months.
After work it is not the train home this time, but the train from Liverpool Street to Stratford as I am staying overnight as I need to be on site Tuesday as well. My hotel is in the Westfield centre just next to the Olympic park. Very nice it is too. So much so I choose regularly to have a walk around the shopping centre but as I am a man, with about 300 shops in the place it takes me about 15 minutes to walk past everyone and decide I need nothing from any. Although pc world takes me about 25 seconds to pass as I have to think about it, but one view of the prices and I am convinced.
So it's back to the room by 7:00p.m. and a chance to check any emails from work before I work on my hobby. But more of that later as I don't want to let the cat out of the bag of what I am planning and my family know all about it so they won't want me banging on about it again.
And that is where I am now, in my hotel room and considering uploading this to my blog before settling down to listen to the footie on the radio. Tomorrow it will be back to the cucumber for my last day on the project and then it will be a surprise even to me what happens next.
