Day 35 - Genk - Introducing Larry the lobster

First job this morning as I went down for Breakfast was to check on the lobsters in the tank and I am pleased to report all five are still there and walking around looking healthy but not in the least bit tasty.  In fact I was looking at them whilst having my bowl of Kellogs and they look a very muddy brown colour and not pink as you see on the television, although my lobster viewing on television is limited to the Naked Gun film.  But I don’t think they look at all appetising not like say a chicken looks even before cooking.  Still they are all there and perhaps there unappealing look is keeping them alive.  And as the great big one is now Larry the lobster as I named him as I watched him so I look forward to seeing him tomorrow and saying goodbye and I may well look to get a photo of him and put it on the blog.  I wish I would think of these things at the time.
Work came and went with the flourish of activity and as it was my final day in Genk I did the rounds of thanking people for their effort and noticed there was much less hand shaking than in France so again slightly different culture.  Also to note there is a lot less hugging and kissing of colleagues which again shows that the Belgiques or whatever you call them are not as over friendly as our dear French cousins.
As it was my final day in Genk I thought i would drive into the town and have a look around, I parked up at a nice free car park (assuming it was free I could read the word gratis but not a lot else) and had a walk around the centre, there were the usual mix of bars and restaurants and as usual it was just gone 6.00 p.m. so all the shops were closed, even the supermarket.  The walk was nice in the warm sunshine and even popped in to look at the library which again for a European town is very impressive, five floors of everything you could want as well as books.  I didn’t partake in any of the local beers as my policy remains of not drinking on drop when I am driving so it was a quick half hour walk and back to the car to be back at the hotel.
I have had dinner in my room, some noodles I warmed with a cup of hot water I got from the bar and the bits of lettuce that had not gone off, which to be honest wasn’t much and now I am writing the blog at eight thirty CET (Central European Time) before I am going to settle down and watch the football  and maybe go berserk and have the banana I have left from lunch as a supper with my bottle of water I have found in the fridge in the room.  To be honest I knew it was there but what has changed is that I have found out it is free, and if I change my mind and don’t drink it then it is another gift for the family back home, along with some lovely shower gel and two shoe shine mits.
So with the joys of Genk coming to an end it is off to Dunkirk tomorrow, a 300 kilometre drive for me to do another two hour presentation, you would imagine these guys would be sick of the sight of me let alone keep asking me back for another turn on the floor.
For now it is time to settle down and watch Real Madrid.
Night All
