Day 134 - Palma - just arrived
I suppose I am cheating a little and maybe not. The reason I say that is that I am not working this week I am actually on holiday but I am still travelling so I suppose it still counts.
So, as I said I am on holiday this week and the first full weeks leave I have had since joining the project in March. To me a holiday would be staying at home but it is not fair to my wife and therefore we have booked a few days away. Not many, only 4 as we have other commitments at home, but we have used the time to try out Palma in Spain, a place neither of us have been to before and as the weather is suppose to be warm then it would be good to catch some warmth before the mildness of the British weather descends on us.
Monday arrived and it meant leaving home at 3.00 a.m., it seems whether holiday or work it means travelling in the early hours. We arrived at the Sentinal parking at Leeds at 4.00 a.m. and we were checked in at the airport before 4.15a.m. Security was fast and friendly, Leeds Bradford airport wins hands down the title of friendliest airport I have been to. It was so fast that we had two hours to wait by the time we got through the airport normalities and we were sat down having our first coffee of the day.
The flight was on time and over two hours in length. Normally I would be asleep before the plane leaves the stand but as Gillian is with me then I had to be sociable and talk most of the way. We were sat to a nice lady from the Manchester area who was also going to Palma (strange that) and an hour of the journey was take up by talking to her.
The first job was to get the shuttle to the hotel and to do that we had to visit an office and wait for it to arrive. As we arrived at the office the lady was eating and drinking in a back office. I looked at her as we stood at the desk and she stood up and walked toward us, she shut the door and we were left waiting until she finished and came out.
As we left the airport to get our shuttle to the hotel the weather hit us and it is warm. The temperature guides we can see as we toured around we're getting higher all the time, from 20 when we arrived to 28 was the highest that we saw.
The hotel is ok, it has both an indoor and outdoor pool however the outdoor pool is closed. Other than that I would give the hotel a 5 out of 10 as there are some issues, such as no tea making despite saying in the brochure, dirty footprints in the bath. I may be picky but I am on holiday and entitled to be.
We dropped our bags and left the hotel to catch the bus into Palma centre and it is quaint, shops and a lovely cathedral, although closed on Monday's. The harbour area is nice but no beach appears to be here so we will have to search for one. As for the centre it is pretty and we looked around for a few hours. Feeling tired after being up at 2.00a.m. we headed back to the hotel via the supermarket and enjoyed a nice evening on the balcony having a drink and having tea. After that it was bed and it is now just after 9.00 p.m. and we are going to go to bed so we can have an early start and be off looking for that elusive beach.
Night all
