Day 135 - Magaluf - not what I expected

When you hear that something is the best thing in the world you want to see it naturally.  When you hear that something is the worst in the world then you are also naturally curious. This was the case when arriving in Mallorca (remember I have not been here before and know very little about the place), and finding out that Magaluf was just down the road.  I have seen the TV shows and read the newspapers about how this town is the place from hell for anyone over 21 or so.  Therefore I was curious and decided to spend today in Magaluf. We set off after a very nice breakfast in the Hotel Bosque to the bus stop and caught the 10.00 a.m. (or just after) to Magaluf via Palmanova and Portis. Firstly our surprise was that Palmanova looked a nice little town as we journey through and the nextel surprise was how close to both Palma and Palmanova Magaluf was. Our first impression as we stepped of the bus was, this looks a nice touristy town and as we found the beach which was very quiet we thought, very nice indeed.  We promptly walked to the waters edge and paddled before sitting in the warm sunshine to relax. As we sat there for about 30 minutes we saw a few more people arrive at the beach and settle to do a spot of sunbathing, but all were either middle aged like us or older (yes, even older than us). We walked along the waters edge and enjoyed the cool water on our feet and occasionally seeing little schools of fish making their way along the beach side.  About half way around the bay we walked back off the beach and along the foreshore, we soon saw a little cafe and stopped to have a coffee, which was reasonable priced at just over 3 euros for both, damn good I thought. Onward again with a few small stops for sight seeing and chatting which meant we got to the end of the bay by about 2.00 p.m.  We then cut in to the town and found what must be the "lively" area at night, around us the beach had become more populated by you would still call it quiet.  The bars which were mostly closed were interspaced by trinket shops and we spent a little while looking around before looking back to the front and finding another cafe for a pot of tea for two and this time it cost us just 2.50 euros for both, you can't get cheaper at home. As we were looking to pay the young girl who served us was chatting so we took the chance to find out what Magaluf was really like. She confirmed it was packed in the summer months but after mid September it is far quieter.  Our experience had been of a lovely town that one could easily spend several days relaxing in and the hype of young people's indiscretions albeit for a few months could easily tarnish a town's reputation as it had done for us. As we headed back to the bus stop at 5.00. p.m. we realised we had found a nice place that at this time of year would be on our visit again list sometime. It is very English and you could say it was England but with hot sun but if you like that then this place is perfect.  I will admit I don't know what it is like tonight myself as we are back at the hotel in Palma but if the girl is right then it is the perfect place to be, out of season.
We arrived back in Palma and to our hotel after a pleasant day of walking and resting, which leaves me beat as to why I am so tired. I have done nothing.
So with me tired and with food to eat that we got from the supermarket yesterday I will bid you goodnight.
Night all
