Today will be another pretty short blog as I have just got back to the hotel and it is after 10: p.m. and I have to be up pretty early for some calls.
Today has been a normal day of work but at the end of the day, colleagues from the same company as me organised a "Cook Out". There is a ranch a few miles from the office and it is quite lovely, there is an outdoor pool, a structure with a barbecue, a basketball court, a horseshoe pitch as well as a large field that could be used for pretty much anything.
The first part of the evening was very good as the site lead led an exercise whereby we all told each other about ourselves and this led to conversations later as we realised that some of us had similar hobbies and interests. Following that people either talked or went outside to play games. I played a bit of basketball before spending some time chatting. Then the food was ready and we all enjoyed some barbecue and again more chatting.
After food I went out again and played softball with some colleagues until it started to get quite dark and we all went into the main building and talked some more before finally we all started to drift off back to our abodes.
Speaking to the people I work with I didn't know before today that one person also writes fiction and just how many people travel to site from all over the US and spend week after week away from home.
It was a really nice evening and something I have not seen other parts of our business do, the cost was all born by ourselves who contributed bits and pieces but the benefit of giving people time to talk together, get to know each other and therefore make it easier to work with was immense. It was also fun playing games. All in all a very nice evening and one of the best I have spend here.
