Day 7 of my travel is a trip back to
London for another fun packed week of work.
And for a change I have a change of hotel, not really planned that way
but the price for the one I normally use had gone ridiculous. Almost £200 per night which is bordering on
silly, so I am 50 yards down the street for a bit less. I have to admit the hotel prices in London
are stupid but as they seem to have a hell of a lot of them and they are pretty
much full all the time, somebody is prepared to pay those prices.
Not a lot to report before lunch
time and as we don’t get a proper lunch break and the sun was shining I thought
I would take a walk and managed to get all the way from the office through
Kings Cross across to St Pancras, through all the shops and then back to the
office without going in the open, it took me nearly 15 minutes to walk around
that route. Bit daft really when the sun
is shining, so I then thought I would go out into the open and walk toward the
bridge that goes over the end of the station in memory of the train spotters at Doncaster.
There were a couple of trains moving about but not sure what numbers to
collect so I didn’t bother. I then
walked past the new theatre they have erected for the Railway Children play
that apparently features a real steam engine but not for me today. I had to head back to work and thought that
misery could only be slightly alleviated by me helping myself to a free coffee
from the machine. If I had wanted more
alleviation then I would have got a hot chocolate that is very nice from work
but I stuck with a cappuccino.
Eventually the evening came and 6.30
p.m. when I decided I had done enough and left for the hotel.
The room is not too bad, clean, a
good size, not huge but a good size, nice telly and overlooks the main road, a
little noisy but nothing too bad. The
only problem is that there is a slight fust smell as you enter the room, it
soon wares off after a few minutes but is there when you come in.
As for the evening, my boss
suggested we go for a walk and find somewhere to eat which I prefer to eating
in the hotel and going nowhere. So we
walked past Euston and ended up on Tottenham Court Road, not quite the end near
Oxford Street but at least we had walked a fair bit of distance and found a
nice Italian although we didn’t know it was nice until after we had eaten. But thankfully it was.
It was nice to sit and discuss
football over a meal, I know football is not everyones cup of tea but when you
consider with work colleagues you normally talk just about work. So having the chance to talk about something
else makes all the difference. Normally
you only get that with your colleagues who are more like friends, like my
Nottingham or Leicester colleague to mention just a few.
So it was nice evening and after the
early start I am looking to hit the hay around 10:00 in 15 minutes so with a
bit of cleaning to do I will say night all and see what tomorrow has on offer.
Night All
