This morning seem to come very
quickly but I suppose that was due to a pretty good sleep and I attribute that
to the walk we had last night. So
pointer to myself is to get out tonight despite my belief that there are none
of my colleagues around tonight or at least the ones willing to go out and
about with me. So I think, as I sit here
this morning staring at my laptop with the time passing just after 7.30 a.m.
and me thinking about the shower, as there is no one else around I may take the
chance to go down Oxford Street and see what shops entice me in. Knowing me, probably none but at least it is
a walk and I want to break my 12000+ steps I did yesterday, so I will have to
get out and about as much as I can.
But for now it is time of the shower
and my second brew of the morning as a treat once I have endured the horror of
running water on me.
I am convinced that the office has
some form of time barrier around it as time does seem to drag and then just
when someone wants something it speeds up, very weird.
Anyway lunchtime came and my Selby
colleague appeared as if by magic and asked if I fancied a walk so we set off
for a lap of Kings Cross and St Pancras.
The lap seem to pass very quickly so we did another, it all adds to my
steps. As we headed back to the office
we noticed that only twenty minutes had passed so we passed the office and
walked up to the viewing area which basically is a portacabin with steps to the
top and you can look out over London from a height of about 10 feet. Totally underwhelmed we spotted a Waitrose
that I had never seen before in the University area so showing how desperate we
were for something to do we actually walked to it and around the shop despite
not wanting anything at all. It only struck
me as funny as we were leaving and I thought, I have actually walked around a
supermarket just for somewhere to go. On
the way back we noticed that they have a large fountain display with hundreds
of small fountains spurting in patterns.
We were awestruck for about 10 minutes before the pattern started to
repeat and we casually walked away and back to the office. The 45 minutes that we took out of the office
flew by.
The later the day went on the busier
it got and finally at 7.00 p.m. I got away from work and as I walked to the
hotel with my re-found Plymouth colleague I discussed going out into London but
it was really too late to get changed and then go out so we decided to hit
China City which is a Chinese restaurant (believe it or not) that is just about
50 yards from the hotel and one that I have been to before with some of my
other colleagues.
We met in reception and walked down
to the restaurant for 7.30 p.m. and I had my usual which was lemon chicken and
boiled rice and glass of coke. It was as
nice as usual.
This gave me the chance to get back
to the hotel by 8.30 p.m. and time to do a little bit more work and then listen
to what was left of the football on the radio before settling down and doing
the cross word and have another cup of tea.
It is now later and I think a good
night sleep is in order so I am going to say good night but before that I hear
you shout, what about your steps today.
Well, I respond, I didn’t think I would have done too many today but that
walk at lunch and walking to and from the hotel to work I have managed to do
10,961 which is 1,300 less than yesterday but not bad when you consider where I
went yesterday. And keeping above my
target of 10,000.
I am now totally devastated and I
will explain why, after writing that last bit I fired up google and put in
about 10,000 steps and it turns out it was a Chinese idea and 10,000 was only
suggested because it fitted with the word man-po-kei which stands for
man=10,000, po=step and kei=meter and it was a marketing tool. The modern day boffins suggest you should be
looking to hit 15,000 steps per day as more of a challenge and if possible keep
trying to increase. Well I will take up
the challenge and I will try and increase to 15,000. Let’s see if I can do it.
But for now I will take the 3 more
steps to the bed and wish you all
Good night.
