Day 34 - Busking

The weather certainly seems to have turned with a lovely sunny day trying its best to burst through my hotel window.
My usual routine of listening to BBC breakfast whilst getting ready paid off today when the local London news bit gave information that today is Busking Day and near Kings Cross there will be lots of street performers on show.  I know that's no use to people in other parts of the country or even London but for me it should give me something to look for when and if I can get out for my usual walks during the day.  I have even charged up the video camera with the idea to try and take a bit of film of what is going on, we shall see how that goes.
For now I have to carry on getting ready and as it is fast approaching 8.00 a.m. I better get my skates on and get off for work, so more later.
Lunchtime came and as it is busker day and the promised street entertainers will be there around Kings Cross doing their thing my Selby colleague and I moved our way down to the front area of the station, only to find nothing.  Not one person busking or street entertaining or anything.  It seems that when the BBC decided to tell us this morning about the event, no one bothered to tell the buskers.
But undeterred at around 3.00 p.m. we decided to go for another walk and again in a spring in our step and a more determined effort to see some action we set off again.  But again we were thwarted as once again there was nothing, not one person doing the business.  We even had a look in the station to see if the cold wind had put them off and that is where we found a treat.
Occasionally organisations put promotion people into the station and give things away, last week I got a chocolate from the Hotel Chocolate shop, sometime before it was free Lucozade’s.  today it was people giving away a new instant coffee in a cup.  So as we made our way through the station we each managed to pick up three cups.  I photographed mine so you can see what I mean.   I may not have seen the buskers that were promised but a free gift or two makes up for it nicely.
Here is a pic of my three cups of coffee ready to be made.  I haven't had them yet as they will be saved for when I get home.

On my way back to the hotel another trip past Kings Cross revealed no buskers so I guess the Buskers Day did not quite take off.
Tonight my Selby colleague and I made plans to take a walk from my hotel down to Leicester Square and then see what takes off from there.  So for now I will leave it as it is just past 6.00 p.m. and time to get gone.
I met my Selby colleague at the entrance to my hotel and we walked steadily in the really cold London evening air, and I mean it was surprisingly cold.  We walked firstly to Tottenham Court Road and then on to Leicester Square.  We warmed up in The Lido Chinese Restaurant and I had a very nice fillet of chicken in lemon sauce with rice and a bottle of tiger beer.  This took us to 9.00 p.m. and when we left we had a short walk back to Leicester Square and then onto Piccadilly and watched some street performers, err, well I think they were sort of dancing but not really sure.  Unimpressed we finally headed back to the underground and a train journey back to Russell Square and my hotel.  I bid my Selby colleague farewell and entered my hotel and headed for the lifts and the sanctuary of my room.  However as I crossed the foyer I ran into my boss who was just leaving the bar and he told me that our Plymouth colleague was in the bar alone watching the last bit of the football, so I decided i would join him, not for a drink as I had had one beer and that was enough for me, so I just sat and kept him company for the last 20 minutes or so of the football and had a chat about work.
Once the final whistle blew it was our key to leave the bar and I headed for my room and with the time still only 10:00 it is nice to be able to do my blog and then sit down with a cup of tea and some time to do the crossword.
I also decided upon my return to video my room and in tomorrow's blog I will put a link to You Tube and the video so if anyone is interested they can see my room from this week.  For the record my steps for today were 13,528 so even with a couple of walks around the stations and down to Leicester Square I have still not hit my 15,000 target.  A little disappointing.
But for now it is time to get a little rest before I settle for bed.  So at this time I will bid you all
Night All
Here is a quick photo of Piccadilly and the large advertisements they have there.
