Day 40 - Not Going out

At the moment I am limited to updating my blog the following morning and trying to do it whilst at work, simple because my laptop is still broken with my screen not working.  That means I cannot use the laptop at the hotel as I don’t have an external screen.  With that said you can see why these updates are not happening in a timely manner and my excuses have now finished.
Last night was really good, but we shall do this in a normal timeline.
It was my travel day to London and that meant my two plus hours on the train and the usual people listening.  I have decided not to use earphones to listen to anything anymore as you get far more entertainment just listening to people and yesterday was no exception.  Unfortunately I cannot write most of what I heard as it would probably create some flag in the blog and ban me from ever writing in it again.  Needless to say I was shocked how open some people talk about their relationships whilst on the train and can’t believe they did not notice how quiet everyone else went whilst they were talking.  Very entertaining anyway.
I arrived at work and with no steam trains to unveilings to take my mind of things I proceeded to work and looked to get started doing what I am actually paid for.
Mid-afternoon my Selby colleague came over and suggested we go for a walk around the stations and not wanting to disappoint him I obliged.  As we started out and just entered St Pancras for the first lap he casually said, “oh do you know the program Not Going Out with Lee Mack”, and I replied “yes, I like that show, very funny”.
He continued, “They are giving away tickets to a read through next week with the cast including Hugh Dennis, do you fancy going.”
My response almost brought me to the attention of the armed police in the place. “You mean you can get tickets and you haven’t done already” was my extremely active response.  After he had calmed me down we did a couple of laps and finally got back into the office were upon five minutes later he brought me my ticket, which was free so even better, and I am hopefully going to see them read through some of the next series of Not Going Out.  I have to admit I am really looking forward to this and will be the highlight of my time down here if all goes to plan.
The rest of the day passed with no incident, I say no incident, it had the usual work trials and tribulations but nothing that peaked my interest, or rather just enough to keep me awake for the afternoon.  I really need a new job, so if anyone out there has a role where I can travel to different places and I mean stacks of travel and you need a project manager who does Cloud services and VDi (which is not a disease) then please send your request on a postcard to the usual address.
The evening came and my Wigan colleague asked what we were going to do and as I had no plans he thought of something.  That something involved walking over to Angel area and seeing what it was like.
We met up and my Selby, Nottingham and Wigan colleagues all walked from Kings Cross over to Angel and wow I was surprised, I knew it was suppose to be nice but what a lovely area, we only saw a very small part over the next few hours of walking around and eating in an Italian restaurant, but it was a lovely evening seeing some great buildings and what looked like a very safe area of London.  Would recommend anyone to walk around Angel and take it in.
We finished off the evening by going into a pub called the “Narrowboat” next to the canal and it was all lit up beautifully as I have tried to show in the photo.

When we left the pub after just the one, we walked back along the canal which again at first thought, walking along the canal at 10:30 p.m. did not sound appealing.  But as we walked closer to the stairs down to the canal side I was surprised how many people were also walking along the canal and what a nice area it was, all well-lit and very well used.
The walk back from Angel to Kings Cross where my colleague’s hotels were and then on to mine which was a further walk away took until just a couple of minutes before midnight but after having dinner late it was nice to walk it off.
On the step front it was a total for the day of over 18,800 steps which proves it was another good day.  This probably all helped for me to have a very good night sleep and woke feeling refreshed and ready for the walk to work.
